Brand New Dawn

A crisp cool rain settled in well before sunrise this morning. This brand new dawn seems to be telling me to stay inside; to burrow in deep. Snow is even predicted a little later in the day. What a perfect morning for snuggling, perfect for enjoying my first cup of coffee by a warm fire. If only I had known the weather was going to change so quickly, then I could have prepared for what was coming…

Because I didn’t know what was heading my way, I couldn’t prepare and move my outside plants in. Nor was I able to protect them from the now pelting rain that is coming down even harder. This unexpected twist meant that some of my most fragile plants wouldn’t  make it. Thankfully, some of my hardier plants, like the English Ivy, will go dormant until next year. However, those plants that were blooming yesterday will be gone in a few hours.

It’s interesting to me how often nature mimics real life. Have you ever noticed that? Much like the unexpected cold spell that hit last night, we too can have what seems to be cold or hard times hit, when we least expect it. At first, we may not know what to do or where to turn next. It may be that we feel as if we are experiencing a period of dormancy, where we are waiting…and waiting…and waiting. It may be that period, just before your eyes catch a glimpse of the brand new dawn that are the most important.

These are exhausting times; times when we have prayed, wrestled and problem solved beyond all of our human abilities. We know there is nothing left for us to do, but leave it in the Lord’s hands. This can also be the darkest time, but it is also the most precious! We have made it through the night, we are holding tightly to His hand and now there is nothing left to do but wait for the the sun to rise.

We are waiting on the “brand new dawn.”

Have you ever had a period in your life like that? Those nights are deep, dark, ebony, but the contrast of the morning is vibrant and crystal clear. It is these beautiful contrasting colors that show us how significant we are to God. He is there in the darkest part of the night, showing us how to find the way to the morning. Whatever our unique situation, He is the light to the dawn and He is encouraging us to break free from those “clinging vines” that hold us down. We are to give them to Him so that He can carry the weight and give us the freedom to fly. He died to give us our freedom!

The lyrics from the song, “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” written by Dolly Parton, vividly captures this moment. Here it is beautifully performed by “The Wailin’ Jenny’s.”

It’s been a long dark night
And I’ve been a waitin’ for the morning
It’s been a long hard fight
But I see a brand new day a dawning
I’ve been looking for the sunshine
You know, I ain’t seen it in so long
And everything’s gonna work out just fine
And everything’s gonna be all right
That’s been all wrong
‘Cause I can see the light of a clear blue morning
I can see the light of a brand new day
I can see the light of a clear blue morning
And everything’s gonna be all right
It’s gonna be okay
It’s been a long, long time
Since I’ve known the taste of freedom
Those clinging vines
That had me bound, well I don’t need ’em
I’ve been like a captured eagle,
You know, an eagle’s born to fly
Now that I, I’ve won my freedom
Like an eagle, I am eager for the sky
‘Cause I can see the light of a clear blue morning
I can see the light of a brand new day
I can see the light of a clear blue morning
Oh, and everything’s gonna be all right
It’s gonna be okay
I can see the light of a clear blue morning
I can see the light of a brand new day
I can see the light of a clear blue morning
Oh, and everything’s gonna be all right
Everything’s gonna be all right
Everything’s gonna be all right
It’s gonna be okay
But I can see the light of a clear blue morning
I can see the light of a brand new day
I can see the light of a clear blue morning
Oh, and everything’s gonna be all right
Everything’s gonna be all right
Everything’s gonna be all right
It’s gonna be okay
I can see the light of a clear blue morning
I can see the light of a brand new day
I can see the light of a clear blue morning
Everything’s gonna be all right
Everything’s gonna be all right
Everything’s gonna be all right
It’s gonna be okay

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles…

Thank you! I am still amazed how God is always at work showing His hand in the everyday things such as what is happening right outside our windows… but I love it when He brings back to mind and old song that goes right along with it! He IS a pretty smart Lord…🙂

The dawn seems to be a special time, maybe because everything is waking up ready to see what the Lord has to bring. And especially this morning…Happy Birthday! Thank you so much for your encouraging words and for joining me on the porch…I love company!

Today’s a gray fall day, and your words brought such sunshine into my heart and soul. It’s all too easy in “everyday life & culture” to remember & believe how important and precious each of us is to God. Thank you for this blessing Regina.

I agree with you…Sometimes it is so wonderful to know other “sisters” have walked similar paths and that the Lord held their hand too! He is a GOOD God! Thanks so much for sending me back that sunshine!
