First Try

Today Porch-Talk is welcoming a special guest, Travis Becknell.

It is my hope that you are blessed by the words and the music you hear as you listen to, “First Try.”

This song goes to the very heart of the hope we have in a Lord and Savior who never gives up on us. The depth of that ever-lasting love is what came across to me the very first time I heard the lyrics of this song. And, that is the reason I asked Travis if I could share it with you today, along with his post.

Thank you Travis, for sharing these words from your heart!

“More than any other song I’ve ever written, this song is one that I would ask that you listen to and then if so moved please share with others. Not all songs take on a such a special meaning, but this one has. It’s the first one I wrote after “settling down”, becoming a pastor, starting a church, and then after a couple of years feeling out of touch with some of the innermost parts of what I was created to be.

In the weeks that followed the writing of this, it became a worship song in our church (I didn’t share with the church who wrote it.) Within the next year it was the first song of the Lighthouse and Compass. My next hope is that it may connect on a deeper level with some who’ll hear it. Maybe some will want to sing it themselves? Maybe other churches? Maybe just in your radio or on your phone as you’re driving, running, meditating, praying… I’m hoping that those that need grace, forgiveness, and reaquaintence might find this to be the soundtrack for those very moments.

A big thank you again to two special guests on this song, Diana Springer-Doescher and Seth Anderson on cello and piano respectively.

Please enjoy our 2nd February Friday release; a very special song to our hearts, “First Try”.”
