Listening to Creation Speak

Ice pelting against the windows was the first thing I heard to give an indication this was going to be a night of interrupted sleep. Listening closer, I could hear the wind beginning to pick up. Nature was kicking up its heals. Creation was certainly speaking loudly, so why not get up, sit by the fire, and enjoy the show.
I grabbed my quilt and made a cup of hot chocolate. Sleep came and went. The sounds continued to ping against the windows, as well as, ping against my peaceful night of sleep. However, the moment I woke I felt rested, peaceful and somewhat excited. I hurried to look outside. I wanted to see what the world looked like now, after a night of listening to creation speak.
Opening the back door I took a long, deep breath. What a wonderful gift, to be able to breath this crisp cold air. Just like this day is a gift. Just like last night was a gift.
“This is the day the Lord has made.
Let us rejoice and be glad in it!”
(Psalm 118:24)
With the first light of dawn I was able to see a morning sparkling with crystals of ice on the windows.
Wind and snow had created beautiful rolling white mounds covering the ground. The sounds of the night had produced a spectacular landscape that appeared to be topped with glitter. My mind and heart no longer considered the sleep I had lost, I felt energized in my spirit as I saw this artistic creation.
Sometimes in life it feels good to get out of our routine, maybe forget what seems to be the urgent things going on around us, such as sleep, schedules, and even those heavy things that might weigh us down. It puts things in perspective if we perk up our ears and just let God speak.
Isn’t it wonderful that our God has unlimited resources and He can use those resources to speak to our souls? Yes, He even uses the gift of the simple things around us, like weather systems and His creation.
Thankfully, for some of us, who may not be listening close enough from time to time, He loves us enough to even use the “pings” of creation to encourage us to take some time out of our busy routines to spend time “listening” to creation so that we can be reminded…
“This is the day the Lord has made.
Let us rejoice and be glad in it!”
(Psalm 118:24 NASB)
Beautiful………………….
Thank you Jackie!
One of my greatest desires is for me to live life more “through the eyes & heart of God.” Thanks Regina for your words that remind me that perhaps steps #1 or #2 or #3 for me is to be present, aware and thankful for each unique minute God has provided and what is happening… as it can’t be duplicated. Thanks for sharing one of those minutes.
Greatly appreciate your words and insight…Living in the moment isn’t always an easy thing to do. I’d like to think we are “getting better” at it as we get older or maybe we just appreciate the “simple” things a bit more! Still pondering on that! The Lord is being patient as I ponder…
Wonderful stories!!
Thank you for coming back for more…
