Ready for the NEW!

As much as I love the Holidays, especially Christmas, and all that goes with it, I also love getting my house back in order. It feels really good when we finally put away the last of the ornaments and garland. There is satisfaction in packing away the old, moving on to the new!

At first the house looks a little bare, but when we actually take a break from all of the work and look around we can see it really isn’t that it’s bare, rather, everything is just back in its original place. However, once that’s done, it doesn’t take but one cup of coffee and a vivid imagination before the wheels in my mind are in motion.

I can already picture our next project, new wainscoting (my Christmas gift) and maybe some open shelves in the kitchen. I love thinking of the tiny details, such as what would go on the shelves. Maybe cream and white pottery and some old vintage signs would work well in there! Even though it’s a white kitchen, it is those small touches that make it warm and welcoming. Then the realization hits,

I really am ready for something new.

And as is often the case, the Lord seems to be revealing the same lesson in other areas of my life. Along with the gift of wainscoting for Christmas I received an unexpected gift that I didn’t realize I received until I stepped on the scales… yikes! Extra pounds.

After the shock, I let out a great big hoot of a laugh! Why? Because these extra pounds of mine were actually a gift. Let me explain! Now don’t get me wrong, they are going to have to come back off, along with several others. But the actual gift of this moment was in realizing that the time spent with my family and friends was what was much more important, not the focus of the scales during that time of celebration. That is a precious gift. I wanted to focus on them and on my Savior’s birth. Not on scales.

However, now it is time to be thankful and to realize the glitter of that season is gone and the new has come. I must get MY house back in order. And the Lord is there to walk this new road with me. I’m excited about getting started, and I am truly ready for the new! Maybe you too have something new you are about to embark upon this year. I pray you too grab hold of the Lord’s hand as you get ready for the new.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
(2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV)
