Script for Today—Hope for Tomorrow!

Have you ever noticed how milestone events have a way of making us stop and take a closer look at where we are in our life? Weddings, funerals, births, and graduations, they often cause us to re-evaluate where we are and even where we have been. We reflect on the past, but at the same time, it can help us visualize where we are going. What does our future look like? Where is our hope for tomorrow?
In the last week, the passing of a loved one was a reflective reminder that time is moving quickly. It brought to mind a question that I have pondered many times in the past, and I am sure I will do so many times in the future: Am I living each day to the fullest? Specifically, am I living it the way God wants me to live?
Interestingly enough, when I was asking myself this question, it brought back to mind a similar morning about 9 years ago. It was then I found myself aware of the importance of this question. But, as God often does, He answered it in an unusual way. I would like to share that answer with you from my 2009 journal entry entitled “Script for Today.”
Script for Today
The newness of today is before me;
Thoughts are stirring, contemplating what lies in store,
Ideas are slowly awakening,
In darkness, I shuffle across the bedroom floor.
Wrapping my robe tightly, I make my way to the kitchen.
A cup of coffee is what these cobwebs require.
But just then I see a glimmer; it’s the sunrise!
I stand still, for I am in awe; no longer focusing on my desire!
I take a deep breath, as the darkness dwindles.
Daybreak sparkles as it reflects off of the morning dew.
Streaks of sunlight expose the vastness of God’s horizon;
A limitless panorama is now encompassing my view.
I can’t help but think of what I had been planning,
Somehow my day’s script seems trivial, compared to what I now see.
For what seemed urgent, is replaced with what is vastly much more important.
As You illuminated the horizon, You Lord, illuminate this day’s opportunities.
For just as an author knows the possibilities as a new script is being written,
Only he has the license to change the plot with each day’s theme.
There is a connection as each chapter opens with new found opportunity,
Limited only by what the writer wants to create in that upcoming scene.
And much like a script that unfolds as the words are being written,
Our life has potential because our God is the author of each and every day’s plans.
Where there are no limitations as long as we surrender our expectations,
And follow the script, perfectly written, by His loving and nail pierced hands.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD,
“plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11
Awesome reminder, Regina, of the magnificence and possibilities of each day if we let God be the designer — instead of self micro-managing schedules.
Thanks Donna, sometimes it is those little things, like a sunrise, or even a morning spent with a friend…that helps us see God’s plan gives us hope for tomorrow!!😄
It does seem like it takes major events or tragedies to make us stop and reflect on where we have been and where we are headed. Thanks for such a well written reminder!!
Such a visual way of expressing how He reveals His plans for our lives in little, even surprising ways. And He’s certainly a much better author than I could have ever been. Thank you for being able to paint the concepts in such a beautiful way.
