What is Your God Given RPM?

Have you ever had those moments in your life when the plans that you made were quickly falling apart? A time when that turntable we call life was moving much faster than your mind and your heart was able to process?

Just recently my hubby and I have been enjoying listening to vinyl records again. However one of the things that hasn’t changed all these years later is, each of those records was created to be played at a particular speed. To get the very best sound quality, each record has an intended revolution or rotations per minute to make them sound their very best. And what else is still true, the moment that record gets bumped up to a faster speed, say 78 rpms instead of 33, all of a sudden the music becomes distorted and hard to understand. That fast-paced, jumbled up sound that you hear is not what the record producer ever intended.

Lately, I found myself identifying with those vinyl records. One unexpected event after another this past year has left my heart and my head spinning. My God given rpm has been jolted. Essentially this 45 rpm girl has had a few too many bumps, and it has become very clear 78 rpms is not the speed God ever intended. The fact is, God never created any of us to live at an ever present fast pace. It is harmful to our body, our mind, and especially our spirit. It is true, He created in us the ability to jump into “fight or flight” mode as a means of protection in those extreme moments of life. However living in that mode can be extremely harmful. That 78 rpm, adrenaline driven lifestyle depletes us, and that is not what God had in mind.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,

“plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 29:11

So what is it that we can do when those out of the blue, high speed moments occur in our life? When the adrenaline is pumping and we feel life is quickly spinning out of control: we can call out to the Lord! He is there!

With all our hearts, with all of our soul, and with all of our mind, we can reach out and ask for that gentle calming of our spirit that can only come from Him. You could say, it is how we get back to our very own God given rpm. It is His gift to us, that whenever we call out to Him, and PRAY, He will be there. HE is listening!!

“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

I will be found by you,” declares the Lord.

Jeremiah 29:12-14b

      Thanks Jackie,
Trisha and Dave got us a record player for Christmas and it has been fun bringing out the old vinyl’s. Guess you could say that was the inspiration for this story!

Hope you have a blessed day Jackie…

Regina, one good thing about getting older is looking back on the times that you know you had absolutely no control on the challenges you were facing, but prayer brought you through. I believe those times are put in our lives to teach us to trust God’s plan, without questioning His timing, and ultimately these times are gifts when viewed in retrospect. This was a wonderful post on your front porch.

Oh how I agree Bev! Those things that He did in the past are the fuel of faith for the future. Thank you for stopping by the porch…
      Sending you blessings
